At Jagua Henna, we manage every step of the process, from sourcing jagua fruits to delivering the final product to henna artists worldwide. We’re excited to show you how we ensure quality every step of the way.

Three years ago, we established a supply chain spanning Colombia to the Netherlands. This setup allows us to carefully select top-quality fruits, streamline operations, ensure consistent stain intensity, and maintain cosmetic quality. But how does it all come together?
Sustainable sourcing
It all begins with the Genipa Americana tree, flourishing in Colombia’s rainforests. These trees produce fruits that contain Genipin, a natural dye used to create dark blue to black temporary tattoos.
Previously, these trees were cut down because the economic potential had not been seen. However, the rising interest in jagua has led to positive changes for local farmers, boosting their incomes and encouraging sustainable farming practices. Our colleague, Dahiana, works closely with the farmers, fostering a relationship beyond just buying and selling fruits. Together, they research the trees and explore innovative solutions.
Their shared goal is to source the highest quality Jagua fruits, crucial for achieving the deep, dark stain that we all love.
Responsible processing
When the fresh fruits arrive at our Colombian factory, they undergo a cleaning process to remove any impurities. The fruits are sliced and arranged on trays, entering the dehydration ovens. After this process, they are inspected and any low-quality pieces are removed.
Next, the fruits are ground into a fine powder and sterilized with UV lights to remove any microbiological loads. Throughout this process, multiple quality checks are done to ensure consistency in delivering the darkest stain possible, every time. Once approved, the product is packaged and shipped to the Netherlands.
Cosmetic certification
In the Netherlands, we further process our products to become cosmetic certified ec1223/2009. We offer jagua powder, juice and gel, expanding our product range to cater to diverse preferences. Our goal is to offer henna artists with the darkest stain possible while also being accessible in terms of affordability. All our products adhere to the highest quality standards in accordance with European regulations.
Once everything is perfect, the products are ready to be used by talented henna artists from across the globe. They are dispatched from our Dutch warehouse, ensuring henna artists worldwide have access to top quality jagua products.
